How large is Sweden?

In a shop or in a hotel you can usually pay with your currency, but you get a lower rate, on the other hand it is not common to charge a fee for this transaction.

Euro checks are very difficult to use and not to recommend at all.

From January 2002 you can use Euro at any larger market place, shop, petrol station, hotel or restaurant.

The Swedish currency is called crooner (kronor) and the abbreviation for it is Skr.

Is it difficult to be understood in Sweden?
Answer: Usually not. Most people speak English. Many also speak German or French. People learn English in schools plus television runs a lot of English and American programs.

Does it cost money to travel on Swedish roads?
Answer: All Swedish roads are free. What can cost is to use the bridge from Denmark to Sweden . Visit the öresundsbron home page. The bridge from Norway to Sweden also takes a fee for passing over.

Congestion tax in Stockholm
A congestion tax is imposed on Swedish registered vehicles driving into and out of the Stockholm inner city zone on weekdays (Monday to Friday) between 6.30 a.m. and 6.29 p.m. No tax is charged on Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, the day before a public holiday or during the month of July.

How fast are you allowed to drive in Sweden?
These are the normal speed limits in Sweden:
Highways 110 kilometer per hour (68mph).
Country roads: 70 or 90 kilometer per hour (43 or 55mph).
In towns or village: Normally 50 kilometer per hour (31mph).
But in narrow places or close to schools just 30 kilometer per hour (19mph).
Notice that some villages don’t put up a sign with speed limit.
The sign for village (a rectangular sign with a white background and with a black silhouettes of houses) mean the same. (mph = Miles per hour).

If you buy your ticket at the railway station or directly on the train you will have to pay the highest price for the journey. Local railway stations often do not have this service. So the Internet, ATG or SJ call centers are your best choice. Different departures can have different price, look out for discounts.

The Swedish railway net is owned and taken care of one company called Banverket, but for handling the traffic there are several operators. They could be named SJ, Tågkompaniet and so on, plus there are companies that take care of the local traffic.

Sweden are divided into regions with area codes with two, three or four digits.
